Successful completion of the first phase of Omsk region teachers professional development program held in ONHP

Training sessions for city and regional educational institution leaders were conducted by Mike Tiruman, president of the Union of Teachers of Singapore.

Today on August 16, 2018 ONHP announced successful completion of the first phase of an international educational project aimed at Omsk city and region headmasters and teachers professional development conducted by Singapore-based company called Educare International Consultancy. Omsk city and region headmasters as well as representatives from the School for Advanced Studies (IRO), 88 participants all together, received the certificates confirming the mastery of methodical leadership program module.

The training sessions lasted four days. The schedule was very busy. During the academic day, which was almost seven hours long, school headmasters and principals, representatives of School for Advanced Studies, Department of Education and relevant ministries with great interest studied the methods offered by Educare tutors. Not a single second was wasted in vain. The whole academic day was spent in constant motion, fulfillment of tasks of different levels of complexity, where it was necessary to show your creativity, teamwork and other important skills.

Each and every participant of the Program emphasized the importance and practicality of such trainings. Many headmasters of educational institutions noted that elements of the international teaching methodology are already applied in Omsk schools. The main achievement of Educare is that they managed to “properly gather and structure” the best approaches available in various international educational methodologies.

“You can feel the influence of Soviet pedagogical system that we used a while ago. Many teachers working in schools nowadays are well familiar with this approach. For successful application of mentioned procedure it is very important that the learning process is not formal”, shares her impressions Mrs. Valentina KOROBKOVA, headmaster of State Funded Educational Institution, Secondary General School No. 41.

“It is not the first time that I have to deal with an international approach. Moreover, certain elements of Singapore education are already applied in our school. I am sure that this model prepare our students for the bright tomorrow, for the day of their graduation, rather than for demands of today. The core stone of this methodology is project activity, namely education personalization”, says Mr. Vyacheslav SHESTAKOV, headmaster and geography teacher of State Funded Educational Institution School No.130.

“As a manager and a teacher at the same time, I should highlight that this meeting is very productive. The core of methodology proposed by Educare is more in the philosophy of education, in understanding of its mission and development strategy. This approach shows that the achievement of any task is based on understanding of the common goal. This method develops in the student the vital qualities required nowadays, which are obviously the skills related to the ability to communicate, cooperate, teamwork, critical thinking and creativity”, says Mr. Konstantin DIYANOV, special prize winner of the XXVIII All-Russian competition "Teacher of the Year".

Closing the first stage of the Program, the Minister of Education of the Omsk region, Mrs. Tatyana DERNOVA highlighted the necessity and importance of such training for any team.

“Any team, any company that wants to develop and improve that are aimed at the future must undergo such trainings. These four days of training is a real revolution in consciousness, immersion in a situation where it is necessary to make quick decisions. But it is not the case when you can use a typical approach. You need to treat all the usual things with creative thinking. For me it is an opportunity to see something that has not been seen for many years in our education system. It is absolutely certain that the knowledge that I received here will be used in the work of my team, where I am the leader”, highlighted the Minister.

Following the leaders of educational institutions, tomorrow, on August 17, 80 city and region school teachers will sit at their desks. Tutors from Singapore will conduct for them a series of trainings called "Effective methods of XXI century skills development". The teachers will be able to apply acquired knowledge starting from the beginning of the new academic year.

Under the terms of the Program, the teachers who successfully completed the education program have to record their lessons developed using the elements of Singapore system. Educare representatives will watch all the videos and chose TOP-20 teachers who will pass to the next stage of training.

It should be highlighted that the Program is implemented within the framework of the three party memorandum signed between the Ministry of Education of the Omsk Region, ONHP and Educare International Consultancy in 2016. This document was practically implemented in 2018 after the meeting between the Governor of Omsk region, Mr. Alexander BURKOV and ONHP CEO, Mr. Igor M. ZUGA within the framework of the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum. The head of the region supported the idea of innovative investments in Omsk education. The project is implemented with full financial support of ONHP.
