Singaporean delegation visited ONHP

Representatives of Singaporean companies visited the Omsk Region at the invitation of Mr. Igor M. ZUGA, ONHP CEO. Within the official visit Mr. Raheed Akbar NARGUND, IE Singapore Regional Director for Russia and CIS and Mr. Mike Mariyappa THIRUMAN, President of Singapore Teachers Union (Educare) had a business meeting with ONHP Top Managers and made an introduction of the Singaporean school education model to the Principals and students of the Omsk Region schools.

For 15 years ONHP has been implementing regional School-University-Company program currently involving 40 schools of the city. According to Mr. Igor M. ZUGA, this is more than just cooperation to improve and upgrade school facilities; first of all it is investment in the process of education. There is a good reason for ONHP to be interested in international experience of education. As ONHP CEO highlighted, School-University-Company program always supported and updated school students’ professional identity, but nowadays the program has to be reset in compliance with worldwide trends, economic globalization and integration.

- Currently is it obviously the employer who should set the requirements to prospective employees. Requirements to human resources are shaped by business. Looking into the future we have to decide how to train modern engineers. Therefore education system has to be adapted to real life circumstances. We invited the representatives of Singapore for a good reason. I am sure that the Singaporean economy is so successful first of all thanks to its approach to learning process arrangement and teachers training methods. The Singaporean practice is actively implemented at the schools of Moscow, Tyumen, the Republic of Tatarstan. Why not make the Omsk Region a part of this process? Our region should become a territory of the future exactly thanks to its educational system – says Mr. Igor M. ZUGA.

Mr. Mike THIRUMAN explained where school reforms shall start. He made an introduction of the Singaporean educational system which is among the key tools of human resources development program. This system is of paramount importance for nation building and for shaping actively developing state economy.

According to the President of Singapore Teachers Union, it is exactly teachers who are the heart of educational system. The quality of their work impacts the final result: children personal fulfilment and maximum possible adaptation to global and economic changes.

- We work in the sphere of focused professional development for teachers. When teachers improve their professional competences, general public knows that everything is fine at school and that additional resources should be invested into educational institutions - says Mr. Mike THIRUMAN.

During the meeting with the principals of Omsk schools at the regional Ministry of Education, Mr. THIRUMAN explained how teachers can be “reset”.
This master class enabled teachers to have a look at the school lesson from a school student’s point of view. Based on the results of the meeting Omsk teachers came to the main conclusion – school has to teach a child how to study.

At the end of the visit Mr. Mike THIRUMAN had a meeting with ONHP specialists and school students undergoing summer on-the-job training in the company.
