Chief Executive shall take care of employees

“A company’s social policy primarily depends on its Head’s social focus,” says Mr. Igor M. ZUGA, ONHP CEO. Policy of Omsk companies in the sphere of providing preventive and recreational assistance to employees and possibilities of cooperation with specialized centers were discussed within “Social Round Table” meeting held in Penaty (Penates), a multifunctional center providing social services to citizens and businesses.

The Round table was attended by Deputy Minister of Labor and Social Development of Omsk Region Ms. Irina Varnavskaya, representatives of Penaty Board of Trustees, representatives of HR departments of Omsk companies, social organizations and educational institutions. Topics of discussion included the following: who needs social care at enterprises and is it “beneficial” to CEOs to provide social care? After all, well-being of families of employees working at enterprises and microclimate within employees teams directly influence labor productivity. ONHP experience to create preventive medicine system in the company was of the most interest for meeting participants.

Health unit has been functioning in the company for several years. No other company in Omsk has a licensed health unit such as this one. The license enables to provide pre-hospital medical assistance and outpatient care, including primary health care in therapy. Preventive nature of the health unit’s work has positive results. ONHP employees do not need to spend their time visiting therapist, gastroenterologist, pulmonologist, cardiologist and other narrowly focused specialists in clinics. Primary care and pre-hospital medical assistance available to employees in the company allowed improving the employees’ health indicators: within the past six years, the rate of diseases declined by 25%.

“Taking care of the specialists is important for me as the company’s CEO. It is my obligation to create favorable labor conditions for the staff. As the leader of a large company, I am interested in ensuring good health of the specialists and their families. Those funds, which we invested some time ago in arrangement of the health unit, had been paid off. A specialist’s illness results in company losses. However each year ONHP saves money on paying for sick leave certificate. This income is indirect but quite tangible. Thus, it is very important for every Manager to recognise significance of caring for their employees’ health,” said Mr. Igor M. ZUGA.

ONHP CEO considers social partnership for enterprises suggested by Penates quite promising, especially with regard to providing preventive medical assistance to the company’s veterans.
