ONHP is our partner

Department of Chemistry in Omsk State University (OmSU) maintains longstanding and successful cooperation with OMSKNEFTEKHIMPROEKT JSC (ONHP). This productive collaboration between OmSU and ONHP can be exemplified in School-University-Company project which has been implemented since 2001 integrating both schools and higher educational institutions.

Mrs. Olga A. Reutova, consultant for established ONHP-based faculty “Design of Chemical Engineering Systems” (DCES) tells about interesting aspects of the project.

For the purpose of implementing this project efficiently ONHP has signed cooperation agreements with the Ministry of Education of the Omsk region and the Department of Education of Omsk region Administration: ONHP acts as a general sponsor of academic competitions within engineering subjects held on the city, regional, national and international levels for the students of the city and regional schools.

In the affiliated schools students of the 10th form and higher can join engineering-focused classes to undertake an advanced course of profession-oriented subjects such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Computer Science, Drawing and the English language.

The school students not only do their work and perform tasks assigned by the Company departments but also take part in the corporate events of the institute, study the activity of the Russian and foreign customers and partners. A rating of students and schools is formed based on the results of the practical training. The best school students regularly get letters of appreciation and prizes during solemn school assemblies dedicated to the Knowledge Day.

ONHP has concluded Contracts on establishing company-based faculties in three Omsk Higher Education Institutions (Omsk State University named after F.M. Dostoyevsky, OMGTU and SIBADI) since academic year of 2014-2015. Students of OmSU chemical department within DCES faculty undertake the course of practice-oriented education applying the company material and engineering facilities. Classes are guided by ONHP highly skilled and qualified specialists experienced in teaching and research activities.

The students also undertake a paid practical training and externship giving them a chance to acquire both theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the course of studies. This type of training implementation represents a powerful motivating element within the system of dual education.

The students are assigned to a supervisor from the Company (a young specialist) helping and guiding them both in their work and studies. The number of students undertaking an internship at ONHP is annually growing at an average of 30%. The best students get an opportunity to be employed at the company based on a flexible schedule. This fact accelerates the process of professional adaptation for these future potential specialists of the company and ultimately constitutes a part of dual education. After their graduation from a higher education institution the most promising students are added to ONHP skill pool.

Every year ONHP specialists visit the presentations of theses written by the students of the basic specialities of higher educational institutions included into the program. The best graduates from higher educational institutions get a chance to take part in the competitive selection to be employed at the Company.

The Company draws special attention to the professional adaptation of young specialists actively helping their professional development. There is a three-year program of professional adaptation designed for young specialists:

- during this period they are assigned to a supervisor selected among qualified institute engineers who also advises and guides a young specialist’s scientific activities which are annually summarized by Science & Engineering Technology Conference “From Design to Construction Engineering”;

- the Company uses a system of pass-fail exams: within the period of three years young specialists annually take pass-fail examinations in conformity with their level of professional adaptation, after that the rating of young professionals is formed and the first-ranked young engineer is awarded with the category promotion ahead of time;

- young specialists play the role of supervisors for school and university students and have a proactive position in the social and cultural life of the institute and university.

The Company has formed the Organization of Young Professionals, there is an operating Council of Young Professionals elected annually, the Company also establishes the development program and budget for this Organization. The provided conditions help the new members of the team not only to integrate successfully but to develop their professional and leadership skills, reveal their scientific and technical potential, define their aims of professional development according to the development strategy of the Company.

OmSU and ONHP collaboration will be encouraged to the new level of development by the license to carry out educational activities obtained by ONHP, as well as by establishment of Corporate University to implement programs of professional development within professional activities (post-university education).

It is no doubt that opening of ONHP-based faculty at the university’s department of chemistry will enable to generate new ideas and will contribute into successful implementation of creative intents during training process of highly qualified designers much-in-demand in the country for petrochemical and oil processing industries.
