Poetry Contest results are summarized. Who is the best: that is the question!

The results of the Poetry Contest in a foreign language, conducted by ONHP from June 11 to June 18, 2014 among school students, undergoing on-the-job-training at the company, were announced.

It has been the second year in a row when the Poetry Contest, aimed at the improvement of foreign language skills, creativity and stage performance are arranged under ESP-Courses for Students under the aegis of "School-University-Company" program. Competition included two phases: screening session and final. All together there were 19 participants who individually selected the author and the poem to be read by heart. There was only one limitation: the poem should have been over two quatrains.

June 2014 finalists of the Poetry Contest in a foreign language became:

1 Kozak Ekaterina Sergeevna (O Captain! My Captain! by Walt Whitman).

2 Kozak Olga Sergeevna (The road not taken by Robert Frost).

3 Latkina Lidiya Ilinichna (To be, or not to be by William Shakespeare).

4 Musaev Vagif Dzhavanshiragly (The road not taken by Robert Frost).

5 Pelikh Alexander Andreevich (Sonnet 116 by William Shakespeare).

6 Poroshin Stanislav Pavlovich (Sonnet 137 by William Shakespeare).

7 Stepanov Sergey Andreevich (Epitaph by Peter John Sinfield).

8 Chukhlantseva Alexandra Stanislavovna (Sonnet 8 by William Shakespeare).

Performances were evaluated applying the following criteria: ideological meaning and artistic peculiarity, phonetic pronunciation, intonation, compliance with image and style, rate of speech, the use of pauses and their semantic compliance. Also a creative approach to performance was considered.

Young poetry-lovers took the initiative and thought outside of the box to create their stage image and atmosphere for presenting selected works. They used costumes, accompanied performances with photos, videos and music.

Mr. Alexander A. Bulgakov, Category III Engineer of Instrumentation and Automation Control Department, Deputy Chairman of Young Professionals Council, Head of the PR Committee shared his impressions on the Poetry Contest:

-      During the event I was constantly amazed at how easy the participants can immerse the listener into the atmosphere, which they create so skillfully. The most surprising was to follow the unique approach for presenting each poem.

And it is not only the pronunciation, diction, intonation and speed, but the efforts contributed into the background, costumes and even music. Personally I, as a participant of ONHP Theater Club, could not leave behind the fact that due to the absence of any limitations and requirements the participants are absolutely open and free for imagination. You can see that each participant puts his heart into the presentation and truly believe in everything around him. I wish all the participants new victories, luck and never stop striving to succeed!

Considering high technical preparation level of the participants and their  creative approach, it was quite a task for the jury to reach a consensus on the winners, therefore the typical awarding scheme was significantly modified.

All Finalists shared the first place and Mr. Stanislav P. Poroshin with a Sonnet 137 by William Shakespeare took Grand Prix.

ONHP congratulates Poetry Contest winners and wishes all young specialists to succeed in foreign languages learning!
