ONHP to strengthen cooperation with OMSU Department of Chemistry

ONHP specialists as guests of honor attended opening ceremony of the All-Russian School Students Chemistry Olympiad regional phase which is held from January 18 to January 21, 2016 at the Department of Chemistry in the Omsk State University named after F.M. Dostoyevsky. There is good reason for the company to participate in this event which is very significant for the regional school students. First of all, ONHP’s participation is driven by “School-University-Enterprise” program focused on creating highly qualified engineers in the Omsk region. Within this program ONHP established close cooperation with Omsk schools and higher education institutions. One phase of its implementation resulted in creation of ONHP-based faculties.

Company-based faculty “Design of Chemical Engineering Systems” at the Department of Chemistry in the Omsk State University was created at ONHP in 2014. Last year the faculty was headed by Igor M. ZUGA, PhD.

Faculty’s works cover several areas. Basic area is training of manpower for ONHP and other leading petrochemical companies of the region. Close cooperation is established between the faculty and the company. Teaching staff includes ONHP lead engineers. Faculty’s students undergo on-the-job training in ONHP. As a rule, only students with 4.8-4.9 average grade in the record book are allowed to undergo this training. Moreover, the faculty performs serious extra-curricular activities aimed at professional competences improvement including regular participation in conferences of various levels where students present their innovative developments and share experience.

One of the leading areas of work is to optimize the faculty’s academic programs. ONHP engineers reviewed the programs of ONHP-based faculty last year to evaluate correspondence of academic subjects to the areas of the company’s work. The near-term plans include one more large-scale expert review based on changes at petrochemical market, ONHP competences expansion and future projects requiring new knowledge from engineers.

Mrs. Svetlana N. TSUKANOVA, ONHP Process Chief Engineer explained that participation of ONHP specialists in School Students Chemistry Olympiad provides also opportunity to discover talents and promote their professional growth in the future.
