New Olympians of Drawing

On June 21, 2014 the 3rd  (final) round of the second Regional Olympics on electronic drawing was held in ONHP. The competition was launched by PankovA Studio of computer pictorial art, graphics and design, Magma non-state educational institution of further professional education and ONHP Young Experts Council. The participants were students of Omsk universities.

For ONHP the arrangement of the second Regional Olympics on electronic drawing is a part of the program intended to develop interest in engineering and implement the younger generation’s creativity.

The First Olympics was conducted among school students, universities students were provided with such an opportunity for the first time. More than thirty students applied for participation and ten of them (students of Siberian Automobile and Highway Academy (SIBADI) and Omsk State University named after M.F.Dostoevsky) reached the final and here they are: Sergey Vasiliev, Mariya Goncharenko, Elena Gur’eva, Natal’yaYurchenko, Stanislav Rzhanitsyn, Lyudmila Sheveleva, Anastasiya Utenkova, Ruslan Zhuravkov, Vladislav Minin and Maxim Babidorich.

For an hour and a half the finalists were solving graphic problems on building of views, efficient section and isometric view of a component with a notch of fourth part according to its description. To solve the task which was created by Lyudmila Dulneva and Sergey Kapanin, ONHP engineers – Young Experts Council members, the participants were supposed to be able to see an item based on its geometrical structure analysis and structural features of a component, to be acquainted with engineering graphics and to have skills of electronic drawing in nanoCAD software (this software with AutoCAD-like interface is developed by the Russian company – Nanosoft JSC).

Anatoly P. Pankov, PankovA studio founder, USSR inventor who is the author of more than 150 scientific papers, including 17 inventions, gave the following estimation of the conducted Olympics significance:

The second Olympics on electronic drawing among students became an outstanding event in Russia thanks to matching with general trend of "import substitution" – Omsk students discovered nanoCAD software. ONHP performs significant and very serious work focusing on education and encouragement of the younger generation.

Olympics participants had an opportunity to examine themselves and estimate their skills, solving practical problems, similar to those that engineers face every day. Leaders’ names will be published at ONHP site after finalizing the results, but it is already possible to state that all the finalists have successfully coped with the task.
