Aimed at EPC

Engineering projects, implemented in accordance with PMI (Project Management Institute) International standards are strategic growth priorities for Russian engineering and construction. According to PMI, the highest mode of cooperation between Client and Engineering Company is EPC (Engineering, Procurement and Construction) Contract, which means Turn-Key Construction on lump-sum bases and with fixed deadlines. The major part of today’s Russian market of engineering services is occupied by companies targeted at specific fields of engineering, but only a few of them are able to provide EPC Services. Therefore, training aimed at EPC Projects Management is not just a call of the times, it is a professional urgency.

ONHP management arranged a seminar “Engineering planning. EPC Projects Management” for its employees and, without doubt, the first ones to receive an invitation for this event were ONHP partners and representatives of Omsk Region Government. Development of advanced production technologies and training schemes for personnel involved in engineering spheres under the Strategy for Socio-Economic Development of Omsk region till 2020 required participation of Regional Government Representatives in such seminar.

The seminar was divided into several sectors. Theoretical and practical sector were followed by a business game. The seminar was held by Mr. Gennadiy Chernetsov, an Individual Consultant on Projects Planning and Management, Master of Business Administration (MBA). Mr. Gennadiy Chernetsov has been conducting corporate trainings on Project Management since 1993 year and therefore he really knows the ropes.   Best Practices, EPC Projects Management Tools and methodology were demonstrated in the course of the seminar. Within practical training, the participants elaborated large-scale projects schedules for ONHP Portfolio. Trainees developed project schedules, deadlines management schedules, project cost-estimates, project problem-solving, communication management in project, change orders management, management of risks, monitoring and control.

Mr. Gennadiy Chernetsov, an Individual Consultant on Projects Planning and Management:

-That is the first time such seminar is held in Russia, I can say that for sure. The course was developed taking into account international experience. When preparing for the seminar I used thesis researches, as far as EPC Projects Management procedure is not thoroughly studied even in the West. Practical training as a part of seminar exceeded all my expectations. ONHP employees had enough skills to manage situations, occurring in the course of the project.

Upon summarization, Mr. Gennadiy Chernetsov analyzed project results. The participants shared their opinions and impressions regarding the seminar.

Mr. Sergey Proshkin, Projects Management Department Head,Achinsk Refinery VNK” JSC:

EPC Projects are not so common for Russia yet. However, in a little while, they will be implemented everywhere. Many practice-oriented examples were provided by our business-trainer based on his rich experience in various organizations. Above all, it was not only the theoretical aspects that we leant, which could be studied individually by reading specialized literature or by Internet, we also hooked-up the theory to practice, which was a valuable experience.

Mr. Airat Gabdraupov, Project Planning Division Manager, Oil Refining and Petrochemical Revamp Programs Management Department, JSOC Bashneft:

- In the course of the training significant scope of work was performed. Such contribution can be a starting point for the specialists eager to become EPCM Managers. Seminar is aimed at up-to-date objectives for the whole petrochemical sphere. It is a huge step for ONHP. I truly thank company top management for such invitation.

A five-day seminar was rounded up by a business game. Participant formed several teams aimed at E, P or C work packages and applied project management tools to solve project difficulties. Business game enabled to design key project management procedures, increasing knowledge and practical skills of project managers and members of team.

Mr. Ivan Bobersky, ONHP Project Planning and Control Department Acting Head:

-          The seminar was arranged in a way to enable ONHP employees not only to gain knowledge in project planning and project management but also practically plan EPC project. For more than 10 years, ONHP has been using Primavera P6 Professional software as a project management information system. Primavera P6 Professional is a recognized standard of high-efficiency software focused on large-scale projects management. Practice-oriented training and business game were conducted by means of this software. It was a valuable experience for me and my colleagues in EPC project management enabling to have a look at SW Primavera opportunities from a new perspective. This event is not the last one. A few more seminars and business trainings are scheduled for 2014 to be attended by ONHP employees as well as Clients’ and Partners’ Representatives.
